This is a type of harm , damage or injury which cannot be fully remedied by the law and , therefore , requires an equitable remedy of injunction against the individual about to commit the injury or harm.

Demonstrating irreparable injury is usually a condition precedent for the granting of injunctive reliefs.

For emphasis , the injury is beyond monetary compensation or damages since the damage cannot be measured by pecuniary standards.

Lord Diplock in the American Cyanamid’s case puts the position of the law as follows ,”…..if on the other hand , damages would not adequately compensate the plaintiff for the temporary damage … an interlocutory injunction may be granted”.
