One peculiar pattern of towns or settlement along a river is that they are linear in fashion. For example, when I first visited Yenogoa many years ago, I saw that the houses were built in a linear fashion but that is no longer the case as the Government have reclaimed most of the swampy land for building purposes.
Precisely , a new Government Residential Area has been built.
Linear settlement is different from scattered settlement where individuals that make up a settlement unit are scattered and apart from one another . The foregoing is true of rural settlements and farm steads
